Liz George

Liz George is the anchor of 'Mainsail', CNN's monthly show that explores one of the world’s most exhilarating, glamorous and toughest sports, sailing. A dedicated and frequent sailor herself, George bring viewers the latest from the leisure, travel, technology and business aspects of sailing, news of the latest major races and regattas around the world, and numerous features on the thrills of the sport and the stunning human endeavour of some of the world’s greatest sailors.

George is passionate about sailing, has sailed competitively in events including the Fastnet challenge and has even skippered her own 31 ft classic yacht, 'Lora'. In 1991 and 1993 she sailed the Fastnet, the 608-mile challenge seen as one of the world’s classic ocean races, earning a very respectable 6th place in 1991. She has also competed in Royal Ocean Racing Club offshore races, trained for the gruelling Global Challenge event and made frequent trips to France and around Europe.

Until recently George was an anchor and correspondent on CNN's daily business programmes broadcast from London, including the European breakfast show, 'CNN Today' and the daily round-up of business markets, 'Business International'. She also co-anchored CNN's show 'Global Office', a monthly half hour feature focussing on business management, and a previous sailing programme 'Inside Sailing'.

Through 'Inside Sailing' George reported from races and events all over the world and interviewed the sport's most renowned figures, from Olympic medallist and America's cup challenger John Kostecki, sailing's husband and wife super combo Neil and Lisa Mcdonald to Whitbread round the world skipper Magnus Olsson. She has reported from locations as diverse as the Asian yachting circuit in Singapore and Indonesia, as well as Portofino, Gothenburg, Palma, Southampton and further afield across Europe.

George joined CNN in 2001 as a London based financial correspondent for business programmes and previously worked for Reuters Television and the BBC business and economic unit.
