How can U.S. interrogation techniques become less amateurish and more reliable?
We could get more information out of prisoners if the intelligence community were able to find one with any intelligence to do the questioning.
--Winnie, Tulsa, OklahomaAre we the good guys or not? Do the good guys torture? To interrogate someone effectively you need people fluent in the language and the culture. Without that, you are spinning your wheels.
--Dick, Corpus Christi, Texas
The administration's whole act is to crank up the tough talk and results be damned. Stories have been done about how torture will get people to talk, but not to tell the truth. The answer is to train people to speak the language, use intelligent interrogation techniques which are well-known, and get some real results.
--Jim, Savannah, GeorgiaWhy doesn't Vice President Cheney want Americans to know who visits him at home? The good, old days of cover-ups and secret plans to get around the laws are on their way out of the White House. The poor guy is forced to bring in his clandestine meetings to his own house. Now, you want to put an end to that too?
--Alex, Glenview, IllinoisThe last time I checked, Mr. Cheney works for us, the U.S. taxpayers, and lives in a house we pay for. What part of this job does he not understand? If he wants to step down from this job, I'll hold the door for him when he leaves.
--Don, Lake Worth, FloridaWhy should Cheney release anything? Only in a democracy do the people have a right to know. Kings are above that sort of thing.
--Marge, Madison, IndianaWhat does it say about our country when a state government sets up an anti-obesity agency with taxpayer dollars?
If parents took an hour out of their day to engage their children in exercise and watched what they fed them, we wouldn't need an agency to guide the parents. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what's unhealthy for children. The laziness of the parents who claim they "don't have time" or they're "too busy" is causing their children to suffer. If they truly love their children, then show them.
--Nick, Mount Carmel, PennsylvaniaThis is a problem that should be attacked not at the state level but at the local McDonald's and Starbuck's level.
--Wes, Louisville, Kentucky
Obesity is a major threat to a healthy body. Those who need help in understanding this disease should be assisted. If states do spend taxpayers' money on this, it will pay dividends with saving in health costs in treating the adverse effects of obesity.
