The Situation Online: OneDOJ, Edwards' announcement

The FBI is one of five law enforcement agencies providing data to the Justice Dept. database, OneDOJ.

Expanding a DOJ database
An internal memo provided to CNN, from the Dept. of Justice to the head of five main law enforcement agencies, discusses taking millions of federal case records and making them available to local and state law enforcement agencies in 15 metropolitan areas. The DOJ says the system, "OneDOJ," has been successful in pilot projects in San Diego and Jacksonville, Florida. But civil liberties and privacy advocates are raising new concerns over the legality of the database. We investigate.

Edwards' Announcement
Former Democratic Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards is widely expected to announce a run for the White House this week in New Orleans. Meantime, a new Web site may provide some fresh clues on the former Senator's political aspirations.
