Travis Tritt performs 'Best of Intentions'
(CNN) -- His mother wanted him to be a gospel singer. His father didn't want him to try music at all. But country star Travis Tritt wouldn't be led away from the path to musical success.
Not that it came quickly.
Until the late 1980s, Tritt was a faceless country wannabe, working various day jobs, cutting demo records, playing when he could. In 1989 he was signed to his first record contract; in 1990 he finally had his first hit, "Country Club." Dozens of others have followed, including "Foolish Pride," "Put Some Drive in Your Country," and one of the all-time great titles, "Here's a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)."

As his career has progressed, Tritt's music has evolved in sound -- and attitude. He attributes the change to starting a family. "The music is still out on the edge, but it's a little bit different message than it had in the past. It's reflective of how happy I am as a husband and father," Tritt, 38, told CNN in 1998.
Tritt's new album, "Down the Road I Go," was released late last year. He stopped by CNN's "Showbiz Today Reports" studios to play the album's most recent single, "Best of Intentions."
