Music on the Road
Icelandic singing sensation Björk
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Just like Madonna and Cher, Björk has become a one name wonder.
Born Björk Guõmundsdóttir in Iceland, she released her first album before she entered her teen years.
She later became one of the lead vocalists of the avant-pop Icelandic sextet the Sugarcubes. But when the band fell apart in 1992, Björk eclipsed the group's popularity with her own solo career.
Trained as a classical pianist, Björk's musical tastes were influenced by the punk movement and electronica.

While her voice can go from a whisper to a wail in the matter of seconds, Björk's latest album, "Vespertine," takes a more intimate look at life than her previous releases.
Laurin Sydney has this week's "Music on the Road" segment.
