Troops aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson at a sneak preview of "Behind Enemy Lines"

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Over the Thanksgiving weekend, 5,500 sailors aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson got a taste of Hollywood: a sneak preview of the new film "Behind Enemy Lines." The story is inspired by many real-life top guns -- including pilot Scott O'Grady, who was shot down over Bosnia.

One reason the men and women on the Carl Vinson received a sneak preview is because many of them are in the film as extras. Indeed, the filmmakers used the Carl Vinson as a set for the film. Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson are the stars.

Wilson, known for his roles in "Meet the Parents" (2000) and "Armageddon" (1997), spent a week aboard ship.

"It was great to be around those guys and see how they are," he says of his military training, which also took place at a naval base and in an F/A-18 Super Hornet jet.

"Behind Enemy Lines" is attracting a great deal of attention not only for its story line, but also for its unabashedly patriotic attitude. CNN Showbiz Today Reports correspondent Sherri Sylvester spent some time with the cast to find out their thoughts on the film and its release at this point in time.
