While checking a house in Fallujah for insurgents in November 2004, Lance Cpl. Randy Lake and fellow soldiers were met by gunfire and grenades. Then, a bomb went off, blowing Lake out of the house. "The training just kicked in, and I was going around helping people … making sure everybody was OK," recalls Lake. He was later awarded a Bronze Star with a combat distinguishing device.
