WHAT THEY'RE SAYING 02-07
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING 02-07

With Western countries ratcheting up talk of further nuclear sanctions on Tehran, Iran's Foreign Minister Mottaki outlined a possible deal to export some or all of Iran's 2600 pounds of enriched uranium. China and Russia fastened on this as a reason to slow or stop talk of sanctions. But a day later, Iran's President Ahmadinejad raised the stakes, directing that uranium now be enriched to 20%. Some say that while Ahmadinejad might want to make a deal, in part as a way to try to put his still contested re-election behind him, concessions are not allowed by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Game-playing is alleged on all sides. Here's some of what they're saying.

"IRAN: Munich machinations continue despite skepticism of Tehran and Western leaders," Los Angeles Times

"US doubts Iran claim nuclear deal 'close,'" Agence France Press

"Defiant Ahmadinejad orders uranium enrichment to 20," Sydney Morning Herald (Australia)

"China could block sanctions against Iran," Washington Post

"Iran's Mottaki optimistic about uranium swap," Tehran Times (Iran)
