What's the lead?
I hope you all had a good weekend. I spent Saturday and Sunday writing a couple of stories for 60 Minutes. Last night I had a story about endangered mountain gorillas that aired on 60 Minutes. We will likely re-air the story on 360 sometime this week. I've gotten a lot of e-mails from viewers about the story already, so if you missed it, you will have another chance to see it on CNN.

Tonight, we're going to be bringing you up to date on a lot of different stories. We're not sure what the lead is going to be. There is going to be a news conference in a couple hours about the weekend shootings in Colorado. Michael Vick has also been sentenced, and there's a ton of interesting political stories out there. This race is shaping up to be the most interesting political battle I've ever covered. If you were in the newsroom today, what would you make the lead?

Anderson,
UMMM...that's a hard one!! I guess I'd have the lead be the Colorado shootings because the Vick case has been covered to death!!

I've heard that they have connected the two shootings in Colorado to the same person who used to work at a youth group at one of them. I think it would be interesting to get the full story on that!

And I have to say the 60 Minutes piece on the gorillas was GREAT! CONGRATS on that Coop!! I can't wait to see it again!!

No matter what you all make the lead I am sure it will be a good choice! If not I'm sure you'll hear about it in the feedbacks!! LOL

See ya tonight!

"Ice storm kills 13" is a pretty serious story . thank you

Well, since everyone is probably overwhelmed with Ice Storm stories I would probably lead with the shootings in Colorado since by the time 360 comes on there would probably be some new information on the topic. Also included in the topic I would like to see an explanation as to why so many young people seem to be the perpetrators of these acts.

I found your 60 Minutes story really interesting and informative. The fact that something we use every summer for our enjoyment, such as charcoal can cause so much pain on innocent beings is truly eye opening. Too bad people hadn't been talking about this years ago maybe things would be different today. One more thing, a question, why do you thing 60 Minutes has lasted so long on the air while other news magazines have come and gone?

Great to see you blogging again.

I am afraid the news here in the UK is on the canoeist back from the dead after five years and UK troops pulling out of Basra - main question, who where we fighting and has any difference / progress been made?

Having just returned from New York (yep - 2 dollars to the pound has got to mean lots of shopping), if I was in the newsroom, I would be looking at the effect all the tourists are having on the economy. What are they buying and how is this affecting US citizens?

Have a great show and keep the "what where they thinking segment" going, the Japanese diarrhea song was fabulous (I am still humming the tune!)

Kindest regards

The only story on my mind and my husband's mind is Huckabee and his views on AIDS and funding.

Did he say it and when? Has he changed his views? If so, why and when? There seems to be conflicting reports.

Then I would show Rudy's response this weekend on the Sunday morning when asked about Huckabee's comments. That is mind opening and a good response from Rudy.

Anderson, your 60 Minutes report on the plight of the gorillas was excellent but very disturbing. Those are remarkably beautiful and intelligent animals and it was awful to learn that they were being killed for charcoal.

If I were running things at 360, I'd skip Vick and even the Colorado shootings and lead with politics because that's what's going to ultimately affect us the most.

Good work so far with keeping your blogging resolution.

Rape murder and abductions happen every day, but the political scene is a once in eight years happening ! Keep on it
