Damn Yankees
--Jami Floyd, Court TV anchor

So the Mitchell Report is out. And as anticipated it implicates over 80 MLB players in what former Senator George Mitchell calls Major Leagues Baseball's steroid era. No surprise there. What did surprise many is the focus of the report on east coast teams, namely the Yankees and Mets. While the Report finds all 30 teams are involved on some level, the East Coast is well-represented on the list of players actually named. Other franchises, however, should not rest on their laurels. Don't damn the Yankees. Or the Mets. Because, with only 2 active players (Jason Giambi and Frank Thomas) cooperating with the investigation, it is safe to assume that the 89 named represent the tip of an iceberg. Some are calling this a great cleansing moment for MLB; but as a fan, I fear it may spell the beginning of the end for America's favorite past time.

As far as the steroid scandal in baseball goes I don't think this report will change anything. There is too much money to be made!! The players may stop the roids but like Gary said they can always go to the human growth hormones. Until there is a test that can catch that then cheating will always happen! And when that test is thought up the cheaters will move on to something else to use!

I am in the same boat as Erin! It is hard to decide who to vote for if you go by the Iraq war. I mean it looks as if we are danged if we do stay and danged if we don't in that situation!

On all of the issues as a whole not one candidate really jumps out in front of the others in my book! I wish they'd get out of the box and take a stand on what they really think and feel! But I doubt that'll happen any time soon!!

I'm still deadlocked in indecision on my vote. I hope the light bulb dawns on me soon. Our next commander in chief has to unite us all with actions not words.
As far as steroids and growth hormones go..Drugs are drugs and cheating is cheating..That's my meaningless two cents. Take Care

Gary,

I think the Mitchell report will have little affect on cheating in baseball. I am not surprised to hear that these "athletes" have found a new way to cheat.

Although cheaters have always existed in the world of sports, I don’t think it was always about winning at any cost; I think there used to be more pride involved. However, as the salaries got larger the incentive to cheat became more intense. Now it is completely out of control. After all, it is a business and nothing is more important than the bottom line.

Now that the fans are used to seeing these Neanderthal-like “athletes” break record after record they will never go back to accepting the truly talented athletes who do not cheat by taking steroids and growth hormones.

Hi Jami and Anderson, I've been following this story and it reminds me why I'm a former sports fan. I love the spirit of competition and teamwork that accompanies a group sport like baseball, but the players have clearly crossed the line. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you find out that a player you idolized cheated to get a championship ring and/or to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. It makes you want to throw away all the autographs, souvenirs, and other memorabilia that you have collected over the years. You can't even sell them...nobody would want to buy souvenirs from a cheater. What a waste and what a shame.

Thanks,

We're giving way too much attention to these people who play games for a living. Alright, so, some celebrities cheated, put their lives at risk, and gambled with their careers. That's different from Hollywood how?

John, it's a huge decision to decide who to vote for. My first choice has disappointed me, leading me to support an underdog. I hope people are taking the primary as seriously as I am. It sounds like Erin is.
