Maybe Rove should bring Cheney along on his hunting trip.

We are all frustrated by the slow progress that the rescue effort is taking. Although I believe the rescuers are working hard and exhausing hours, I do question whether all possibilities of finding these miners have been exhausted. It is hard to believe that in a day and age where we can control a computer driven vehicle on mars, that we can not utilize technology to send some type remote operated vehicle to investigate the empty space found by the latest drilling efforts.

My continued prayers go out to these miners and their families.

I realize that other news continues on in this world, but I'm sure the families of the miners have only one thought. Their loved ones. My thoughts are with them today. What a horrible wait.

Oh Guys!

We thought for sure you would be covering the 1-800-Flowers story and the pending lawsuit.

Are you all going to sneak it in for the "What was HE thinking?" segment? I am sure Miss Erica would have a field day with this story!

My office has been a buzz with laughter especially when I got a huge package from 1-800-Flowers last week.

When I came in this morning, they were going through the trash looking for my card trying to determine who sent me flowers!

I think it is time that I send my interns back to college!

Re Rove quitting, it doesn't feel quite as jubilant as when Rumsfeld left, but it is a close second. I wonder what Bush will do now that his brains has left. My guess is he will be consulting Wikipedia on the internets.

I would like to know why they can't use a "rover" type robot with video and audio into the voids where they hope to find the miners? There also seems to be a small space at the top near the ceiling at the entrance to where they might be located.

So Rove is leaving the White House and going hunting! Maybe he'll take Cheney with him.

Our hearts certainly go out to the families of the miners. The slow process must be taking a great toll on them. I have not heard anyone ask yet, why the hole is not being drilled big enough for a one-man basket to be lowered. Now that they know for sure they are in the right place the basket could be used to lower someone to search for the miners or be used to bring up someone who may be injured. Or, like some others have suggested, use a robotic device to search the cavern. Are they really going to continue to just drill holes hoping to come within 100ft of them? It is great that they will be able to lower food, water, and provide better air, but what if they are all injured and need help; then what? The internal digging is days away from getting to them.

The search-and-rescue techniques used to rescue trapped miners seem to be time-consuming, primitive and archaic. Aren't there more creative ways to find the trapped men? Why not train laboratory rats to creep into the rubble and seek out human beings? Rats are supposed to be quite intelligent. Or what about nanotechnology?

Shouldn't these mine companies, who I assume are very, very profitable, have another tunnel dug as an alternative to the mine entrance to act as an "exit"?

Returning to work after watching the coverage for the past days, I've been checking in with CNN.com during brief breaks to see if there's any updated news on the miners. I can't imagine the difficulty of this wait for the familes. I'm wondering what information they have to guide the drilling of this third hole, and was dismayed to read that it will take up to 6 days to complete. Are they not expecting that they will actually be able to dig through within the mine itself by that time? Based on Gary's story, I thought they had a fairly good idea where the miners would be, as he was indicating that there are phones to report locations every so often. My prayers are with those families.

Regarding Rove: Does this mean he will no longer be protected by "executive privilege" come September 1st, and could be required to testify before Congress?

Memo to most commenters -

you probably don't want to "sling mud" when you're accusing someone else of being a mud slinger.
