Wired Executive: Narong Chivangkur, CEO, Momentum (Asia)
Thailand may not match places such as Hong Kong and Singapore in use of the latest information technology, but Thai entrepreneur Narong Chivangkur makes up with zeal what he lacks in microprocessor speed. Using a four-year-old IBM ThinkPad laptop PC as a mobile office, the 54-year-old marketing consultant routinely links with his company's network, checking invoices, sending e-mails, or surfing his company's website at www.momentum-asia.com.

Wired Exec: Narong Chivangkur, CEO, Momentum (Asia)

"This machine can make millions," says Narong of his well-worn laptop. While sitting in the lobby of a Bangkok hotel, he demonstrates how he pitches clients such as the CP Group's 7-Eleven franchise and Mitr Phol Sugar Co. with computerized marketing presentations. "The main thing is to break through the cybernetic barrier, to embrace technology and all computers and the Internet can offer you."

After spending 27 years as a brand manager with Kodak in Europe, South America, Indonesia and Bangkok, Narong 18 months ago decided to start his own company, Momentum (Asia). Relying only on a small staff of wired assistants and partners -- with one-man branches in Seoul and Bangalore he turns to tech for the edge that can help him compete with larger consultancies. Narong is frequently logged onto the Internet in search of the latest marketing information. "What I do is sell ideas," he says. Soon he'll have a wider forum. In January, he is slated to host a weekly UBC TV program on marketing called "80-20 Work Smart." To Narong, working smart means taking full advantage of all the processing power you can muster.
