Is Back, Says the ADB
In its annual Outlook, the Asian Development Bank notes that by 1999 the
world had shaken off the effects of the 1997 Crisis - and no other region
did it as well as Asia. Almost all Asian countries enjoyed moderate to
strong growth. Interest rates decreased and exchange rates stabilized.
Domestic demand and export growth improved. Capital inflows from overseas
investors returned in strength, equity markets became increasingly vital
and consumers regained enough confidence to buy and invest with an eye
to the future.
