Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore are locked in a vigorous competition to keep their phone and data systems not only technologically current but affordable, too. The National University of Singapore's Center for TeleMedia Strategy uses those two factors, plus the range of consumer choice and transparency of regulating commissions, to rank competitiveness. The Center notes the differences between the top four is minimal and get smaller each year.
