COMPANY MONITOR

Sources: Asia Equity; Data stream Berhad

CEO: Ahmad Jauhari, managing director

Major stockholder: Mal. Resources Corp. (50.3%)

Recommended: Malaysian independent power producer licensed to build, own and operate a 1,303-MW thermal plant in Lumut in Perak state. The first phase of the station (652-MW) commenced last May and the second and final phase will commence early 1997. Malakoff's earnings are guaranteed by its power supply accord with the state-run electricity giant Tenaga Nasional. The firm's shares are trading at a slight discount to the net current value of its Lumut plant's anticipated income (cashflow) through 2008, plus its plantation land holdings. Malakoff's net worth does not in-clude the expected earnings from its other investments, including an $800m. power project in India.
