McCain television ads to begin Friday in New Hampshire

WASHINGTON (CNN)-- Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain plans to debut his first presidential television advertisements Friday in New Hampshire, CNN has learned.

A top McCain adviser said McCain's first presidential campaign ad will focus on "telling the story of who John McCain is by emphasizing that McCain has the qualities to be president."

These qualities, the adviser said, are "courage, character and being ready to be president."

McCain, R-Ariz., is the son and grandson of Navy admirals who, as Navy pilot himself, was shot down over Vietnam and brutalized during 5 1/2 years as a war prisoner.

The ad will begin with "visuals of McCain during his experience in Vietnam as a POW" and then "move into his story when he came home" and ran for political office, the adviser said. The ads will bring viewers up to the present by showing viewers that McCain has "been tested" and has "the experience to be president."

The ad will run only in the granite state "to begin with," but may run in "other states later," according to the advisor.

The McCain adviser would not disclose how much money was being spent on the ad buy, but did say that the buy was placed Wednesday.
