WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, July 20) -- President Bill Clinton will travel to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina on July 30 to participate in a summit focusing on investing in the Balkan region.
Thirty leaders will gather for the Southeast Europe Stability Pact Summit to discuss ways to stabilize peace in the region as well as potential economic reforms.
Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic was not invited to participate.
Clinton will attend, White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart said Monday, because the United States is "committed to assist in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's reintegration into Europe, but only after there is a government in Belgrade that is committed to democracy, human rights and international cooperation."
The summit is sponsored by the European Union.
