NEW YORK (AllPolitics, July 19) -- Citing the presumed death of John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife and her sister, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to put off a Senate exploratory campaign trip that was scheduled to begin Tuesday in upstate New York.
"Mrs. Clinton joins with the President in sending her prayers and thoughts to the Kennedy and Bessette families during this very difficult period," a statement from Mrs. Clinton's exploratory committee said.
Before canceling, Mrs. Clinton had been scheduled to appear in Elmira, Bath, and Ithaca for "listening events" between Tuesday and Thursday.
She launched the exploratory phase of her Senate run July 7 with a three-day tour of Oneonta, Cooperstown, Rome, Utica, Syracuse and Albany.
Mrs. Clinton's staff said she will try to reschedule the visit for August.
