WASHINGTON (CNN) -- First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton has signed a sworn statement declaring she had no involvement in the White House's improperly obtaining hundreds of FBI files on Bush and Reagan administration officials.
"I never obtained, nor ordered, nor requested anyone...to obtain, any FBI file, FBI background investigative summary, or information therefrom, of any former government employee employed by either the Bush or Reagan Administration," Mrs. Clinton says in the two-page statement.
The First Lady's attorneys filed the statement Monday with the U.S. District Court in Washington as part of an effort to dismiss a motion by the conservative legal group, Judicial Watch, to obtain a deposition from her.
Judicial Watch is representing Bush and Reagan administration officials in a $90 million lawsuit -- alleging their FBI files were illegally gathered and misused by Clinton administration officials.
Mrs. Clinton, in her statement, also insists she never "disseminated" or "maintained" any FBI file; never saw any FBI file of Bush or Reagan
administration officials; and has no knowledge of any "politically motivated" or other use of those files. She also denied recommending that Craig Livingstone be hired to head the White House Personnel Security office.
In a statement, Judicial Watch says Mrs. Clinton's sworn statement "has several glaring omissions and is full of lawyerly words and artful language that beg many a question."
