Ex-Sen. Bradley may make presidential run
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, December 2) -- Friends and allies of former New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley say they expect the Hall of Fame ex-basketball player to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2000. Bradley's closest advisers say he has not made a final decision, but supporters say they are certain he will launch his presidential campaign before the end of the year. Bradley also considered presidential runs in 1988 and 1992, but decided not to enter those races. The 55-year-old Democrat was first elected to the Senate in 1978 and left in 1996. He has spent the last two years lecturing, working with civic groups and consulting on Wall Street. Most recently he has concluded a nationwide book tour to promote his latest work, "Values of the Game." While Vice President Al Gore is favorite for the nomination, other potential candidates include House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri, Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone. |
