Audio of Jones v. Clinton appeal arguments available on the Web

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AllPolitics, October 21) -- An audio recording of Tuesday's federal appeals court hearing on the Paula Jones sexual harassment suit against President Bill Clinton has been posted on the federal court's Web site, but the court ordered it not be rebroadcast on radio or television.

Clinton, Jones

A three-judge panel of the 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals heard oral arguments Tuesday in Jones' attempt to get her case reinstated. Earlier this year, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Webber Wright dismissed the case by summary judgment.

"The Court has provided this Internet link to the audio recording of the October 20, 1998 oral argument in the Jones v. Clinton case as a courtesy to the media and the public following the case," the court's Web site reads.

While federal courts have recently used the Internet to post court documents, this apparently is the first case in which the audio of a hearing has been posted.

Federal court rules prohibit distribution of audio and visual recordings from court proceedings. Exceptions have been made only for use in special listening or viewing rooms for the news media, or, as in the case of the Oklahoma City bombing trials, for the families of victims.

The recording is located at http://ls.wustl.edu/8th.cir/Jones/jones.html.
