Jesse Jackson Says Clinton Is 'Embarrassed'
He predicts Clinton's marriage will survive
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Aug. 17) -- Jesse Jackson said first lady Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea are standing by an "embarrassed" President Bill Clinton as he approaches his historic grand jury testimony in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. (704K wav sound)
"Face it, he is embarrassed by whatever happened, however one
defines inappropriate, and Hillary's had to face the humiliation of it all," said Jackson, who met with the first family Sunday night and prayed with them. But Jackson said the couple is in love "and their marriage will survive this."
"You need faith when storms come suddenly, so I really talked to Hillary and Chelsea about matters of faith and unconditional love," said Jackson, a U.S. envoy to Africa and former Democratic presidential candidate.
"The fact that we had nine months of this drama, it is obviously
embarrassing to him," Jackson said. "But somehow I'm convinced that [Monday] he will face that grand jury and make his case, but what I think is most important to him is that Chelsea and Hillary are standing with him, and I suppose if that strength was not there he would really be in bigger trouble."
