Documents From Secret Service Privilege Case

In a letter dated April 28, Independent Counsel Ken Starr asked the White House if President Bill Clinton would direct Secret Service personnel to testify in the Monica Lewinsky investigation, according to court papers unsealed on May 19.

Another document released in the case was a declaration by Secret Service Director Lewis C. Merletti. In it, he argues that forcing Secret Service personnel to testify could mean an erosion of the "complete and unquestioned access and proximity" needed to adequately protect the president.
