Paula Jones Files Her Notice Of Appeal
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AllPolitics, April 29) -- As promised, Paula Jones formally told a U.S. District Court judge Wednesday she is appealing the decision to dismiss her sexual harassment lawsuit against President Bill Clinton.
Jones and her lawyers filed a notice with Judge Susan
Webber Wright, who on April 1 ruled that Jones' claims against
the president fell "far short" of being worthy of a federal
trial.
"She's continuing the fight," said David M. Pyke, one of Jones' lawyers. "We're going to continue to make the same arguments
and try to advance the legal arguments to a higher court." The 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in St. Louis will consider the appeal.
The notice has been expected since April 16, when a teary Jones told a Dallas news conference she intended to appeal. Her latest filing contains no new allegations.
Jones claims then-Arkansas Gov. Clinton made a crude request for oral sex in a hotel room in Little Rock in May 1991, and she suffered in her state job as a result of rejecting his proposition. But Judge Wright said while the behavior, if true, was boorish, it did not amount to sexual harassment.
Clinton has said he does not recall ever meeting Jones and has denied anything improper.
