Voter's Voice: Jones' Appeal
Here's some of the mail we've gotten about Paula Jones' decision to press forward with her lawsuit against Bill Clinton. If you'd like to comment on that or anything else, drop us an e-mail note. And please include your name and home town.
'What A Dupe'
Regardless of what you believe really happened, you've got to feel
sorry for Paula Jones. This woman hasn't figured out what a dupe she is
for the right wing conspiracy, and the likes of the Rutherford Institute
and Susan Carpenter McMillan. To suggest she really feels that she was
emotionally injured 12 years ago, and after being slapped down ...
to stand up and take another is insane. Now we have to listen to all
this crap again. And thanks to our legal system it will be another two
years. When is it smart to say enough is enough? ...
... History will vindicate Clinton, not because he didn't do these things, but because of the unusual abuse and attacks he has been allowed to endure. Once again the conservatives lose.
-- Keith Francis, Morrison, Colo., April 16
'A Hero'
I believe her.
She is a hero.
If similar things had been said about a Republican, he would be history.
-- Evy Warmbier, South Florida, April 16
'Against God's Laws'
I believe no one should be above the law, including the president. If
Paula Jones is not allowed her day in court, women everywhere will go
back to the middle ages with sexual harassment running rampant! No man
should be allowed to expose himself to a woman and ask for oral sex and
get away with it; this goes against God's laws and civil laws. This man
needs to pay his dues like everyone else!
-- Patricia Schneider, April 16
'It Made Me Sick'
I heard part of Paula Jones' press conference on NPR [Thursday] afternoon and I must say it made me sick. I could not believe she would go in front of the whole nation and make a complete fool of herself. Does she not yet realize she is a pawn and is being played? For Paula to show real courage she would have to say no to all the people surrounding her. Oh well, I guess she will continue to humiliate herself just to keep driving that nice Mercedes.

'Clearly And Vigorously Prosecuted'
A great deal has been written about whether what Mr. Clinton
allegedly did was merely "boorish" or "normal" or whatnot.
More attention appears to be paid to the President's apparent
virility than to what seems to me to be the crucial point
which I believe courts should address specifically and
unequivocally.
That is, the circumstances under which the alleged sexual
"proposition" occurred. If a man dates a woman, it may be
assumed by anyone that at least the man has sex somewhere
on his agenda for the evening, if possible.
But if a man employs a woman as a secretary, etc., he has
a CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT which may NOT include sexual
favors which are implicitly negotiable in a "contract" for
an evening's dining and entertainment.
Of course nothing has been proved so far about the sordid
allegations. But if we start with the foundation that the
man was the woman's employer, any sexual advances while on
the job should be clearly and vigorously prosecuted as
harassment.

'Inflict Herself On The American People'
Paula Jones' 15 minutes are unfortunately not up quite yet. Regarding her decision to appeal Judge Wright's ruling throwing out her case, I find it unbelievable that this woman will continue to inflict herself on the American people for some time to come. Will her book deal get better by keeping this alive? Did the conservative groups that are bankrolling her make an offer she couldn't refuse? Ms. Jones, who was so traumatized by not getting flowers on secretary's day that she felt compelled to file a suit against a man four years after the alleged incident occurred NEEDS TO GO AWAY!!
-- John Ventimiglia, Atlanta, Ga., April 16
'Real Feminists Should Be Embarrassed'
Real feminists should be embarrassed by Paula Jones'/Rutherford
Institute's "victimhood-for-profit" scheme. For $300,000+, many people
would be willing to play the victim and trash a public figure. On the
other hand, the people whom I respect are willing to take responsibility
for their actions, such as declining a sexual come-on and walking away.
The most shocking thing in all of this is that the press refuses to see
what most people see clearly: that all the allegations are motivated by
profit or political competition.
-- Steve Farone, Olympia, Wash., April 16
'Being Led By Folks With An Agenda'
Ms. Jones need real advice. She is being led by folks with an agenda. She will definitely lose again and none will be remembered or suffer more than her family and herself. It is so sad that fellow Americans in the name of ideology and politics will stoop so low to endanger a less politically sophisticated individual.
-- G. Kotey, Scotch Plains N.J., April 16
'This Ugly Game'
Paula Jones should have just accepted the fact that her sexual harassment case against President Clinton has no firm legal basis. But that would have indicated that she was in this ugly game for more than mere money, fleeting fame, and political partisanship. She isn't. Jones has become a willing pawn in the campaign by Republicans and other conservatives to weaken Mr. Clinton politically and utterly destroy his personal reputation.
Giving up her lawsuit -- bogus as it is -- against the president would have meant that Jones or her husband might actually have had to go out and find a job, rather than living off the donations from Clinton haters. She couldn't do that, now, could she? After all, Jones needs the money to buy new cars and keep her dog kenneled in high style. What a sham this whole lawsuit is, and how destructive it is to our nation's reputation.
