Starr Seeks To Force Secret Service Testimony

By Bob Franken/CNN

WASHINGTON (April 14) -- Independent Counsel Ken Starr has filed a sealed motion seeking to force Secret Service uniformed officers to answer certain questions in Starr's grand jury investigation into the Monica Lewinsky matter, sources confirm to CNN.

The motion, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, was filed in the court of presiding Judge Norma Holloway Johnson.

CNN reported a month ago the Justice and Treasury departments had made known their intentions not to allow Secret Service agents to testify before the grand jury on non-criminal matters.

Although there has been some cooperation with Starr, agents have refused to answer enough questions to motivate Starr to go to the judge seeking an order forcing them to answer.
