Gore Hammers His Way Into A New Half Century

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, March 31) -- Vice President Al Gore turned 50 Tuesday amid the sound of hammers and saws. The vice president celebrated his birthday helping renovate a Habitat for Humanity home in Washington D.C.

Gore had an early breakfast with his parents in Tennessee before flying back to Washington to work on the Habitat home in the afternoon.

The vice president's staff, all of whom were invited to participate in the renovation project, planned a party for their boss later in the day. Gore and his wife Tipper will host a private party for friends Tuesday evening.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit agency that uses volunteers to build and renovate homes for low-income families.
