Second Set Of First Lady's Billing Records Found
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, March 26) -- A discovery in the attic of the late Vincent Foster has provided Whitewater prosecutors with a second set of first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-elusive law firm billing records, lawyers said Thursday.
CNN has confirmed with two sources the discovery last July of
a second set of the Rose Law Firm billing records, which are key to an investigation into first lady's Whitewater role.
The first set turned up in the White House family quarters in 1996.
This second set was discovered by Foster's widow in an attic in their Little Rock residence. Foster, who committed suicide in July 1993, was a White House counsel.
First family attorney David Kendall said the billing records discovered by Foster's widow are virtually identical to the first set.
Kendall said there were "a few additional handwritten notations and 15 additional pages in the set produced two years ago."
Prosecutors are using the records found in Foster's attic as part of the Little Rock grand jury investigation into the first family's real estate deals and Mrs. Clinton's legal work for a failed savings and loan owned by her Whitewater business partner, the late James McDougal.
The documents are key to a probe into whether Mrs. Clinton, as a attorney, prepared fraudulent documents in connection with a real estate venture known as Castle Grande.
But rather than raise new questions, Kendall's statement said the discovery of the records at Foster's house last July answered questions.
"Mrs. Foster's discovery puts to rest any questions about what happened to Vince Foster's set of the records," he said.
A spokesman for Starr declined comment.
