White House Scandal At A Glance: March 4
Today's developments:
- Monica Lewinsky's ex-attorney, Frank Carter is fighting an effort by Independent Counsel Ken Starr to force him to testify and turn over notes he took of conversations with Lewinsky while helping her prepare her affidavit in the Paula Jones case. The chief judge presiding over the grand jury held a closed-door hearing Wednesday on the issue but did not immediately issue a ruling.
- Independent Counsel Ken Starr's office has notified White House secretary Betty Currie and presidential confidant Bruce Lindsey they will not be recalled this week before the grand jury. They were originally scheduled to appear Thursday.
- The Justice Department says it will review a formal complaint filed by a South Carolina lawyer alleging that Starr concealed false testimony while an attorney in a civil case. The attorney, Kendall Few, alleges Starr helped conceal alleged perjury by a General Motors engineer while defending the company in a product liability suit dealing with fuel tank fires.
