Trie Documents To Be Released Thursday
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Feb. 25) -- In place of hearings to probe Democratic fund-raiser Charlie Trie's role in alleged campaign finance abuses, House Government Reform and Oversight Committee Chairman Dan Burton (R-Ind.) Thursday will make public thousands of pages of documents said to include bank and credit card records, telephone calls and hotel charges related to Trie.
Burton's committee had scheduled hearings on Trie's involvement regarding overseas money in the Clinton-Gore 1996 campaign. Burton called them off when two key witnesses became unavailable.
Trie was indicted last month for his alleged involvment in a scheme to funnel illegal donations from overseas to the Democratic National Committee.
