White House Scandal At A Glance: Feb. 5

Today's developments:

  • Whitewater Independent Counsel Ken Starr declined to discuss the status of immunity talks with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. But Starr said his inquiry is "moving very quickly and we've made very significant progress."

  • Lewinsky's attorney William Ginsburg says he was not surprised that Starr rejected their written statement seeking immunity from prosecution. Talks are stalled again, and Ginsburg does not anticipate talking to Starr anytime soon saying, "Frankly, I don't want to really deal with him anymore."

  • At an appearance with visiting British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Clinton declined to talk about the Lewinsky controversy in detail, but repeated his earlier denials of a sexual relationship with Lewinsky. "I have already denied the legal charges, strongly, and I do so again," Clinton said.

  • Clinton, asked about whether his aides might assert executive privilege to limit their Whitewater grand jury testimony, called that "a hypothetical question."

  • A former White House intern, 21-year-old Justin Coleman, testified before the grand jury and then told reporters he had no knowledge of a relationship -- "proper or improper" -- between Lewinsky and Clinton.
