Clinton To Give Deposition Next Week

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Jan. 7) -- President Bill Clinton will give a deposition in Paula Jones' lawsuit against him at the White House on Jan. 17, and Jones may be in attendance, reports today's Washington Times.

An article in the conservative newspaper says Clinton will answer questions under oath from Jones' lawyers in the White House Map Room, and that Jones may exercise her prerogative to attend the session.

Jones' civil-rights suit alleges that Clinton propositioned her for oral sex in a Little Rock, Ark., hotel room in 1991, then punished her on the job when she declined. Clinton denies the charges.

A unanimous Supreme Court ruled in May 1997 there was nothing in the U.S. Constitution that bars Jones' lawsuit from proceeding against the president while he is still in office.

The case is scheduled to go to trial in May. Clinton's co-defendant is state trooper Danny Ferguson, who Jones claims helped arrange the Excelsior Hotel meeting.
