13th Congressional District: Staten Island, Brooklyn

NY 13: Ensuring that New York City has at least one Republican voice in Congress, City Councilman Vito J. Fossella defeated Democratic State Rep. Eric N. Vitaliano in the race for New York's 13th congressional district. The district, vacated by Republican Susan Molinari in August, consists primarily of Staten Island but also reaches into southwestern Brooklyn. Fossella enjoyed the support of several local political powers including Molinari and Republican Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. He also benefitted from a expensive television advertising campaign against Vitaliano financed by the Republican National Committee.
