Clinton Plans Some Recreational Shopping

Last-minute shopping is a tradition for him

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Dec. 24) -- So what if he has all his shopping done? President Bill Clinton plans to join the last-minute crush of holiday shoppers today anyway. It's a tradition with him, you see.

"My shopping is all done," the president told reporters Tuesday night. "But Chelsea and I go shopping every Christmas Eve. It's a ritual. I tried to get her to go today [Tuesday], but she said no."

Clinton said he bought all the gifts he needed on presidential trips earlier in the year, including stops in New York City and Canada. On previous Christmas Eves, Clinton has shopped at Washington's Union Station shops and at a Virginia mall near the Pentagon.

"I work on it all year," he said.

In another holiday observance, Clinton invited students from a Jewish school in Washington to the Oval Office on Tuesday, the first night of Hanukkah, for a ceremony to light the first candle of a menorah on Clinton's desk.
