From: CNN Subject: A Subpoena For Communications Agency The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Fred Thompson, has voted to subpoena the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) to find out more about the recently released tapes of political coffees at the White House. The subpoena asks that one or more persons testify about the handling of those tapes. The reason for the subpoena is because of the long delay in the discovery of the tapes which were originally requested last spring. Thompson says the subpoena should be responded to by Oct. 15. The subpoena says the committee is interested in the system by which tapes are stored, retreived or destroyed as well as how individuals on the tapes are identified in the WHCA database. As CNN reported earlier, the White House counsel's office has recommended that any employees of WHCA who might be covered by the subpoena first retain private lawyers.
