Poll: Congress Returns With High Approval Rating

Crime, NATO and "fast track" legislation

Which issues will Congress face when it returns to work?

problems

The public says that crime and drugs are the most important issues facing the country today, and despite reported drops in the crime rate, only a third of all Americans believe that there is less crime where they live than there was a year ago.

On other issues, the country agrees with the president that NATO should be expanded to include Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, but they oppose "fast track" legislation that would make it easier for the president to reach trade agreements similar to NAFTA with other countries.

On a minor issue, Americans oppose a plan to temporarily replace the design on the back of the U.S. quarter with a rotating series of designs that would represent each state in the country.
