Subject: Key Democrat Accuses Republican Party Of 'Stonewalling' Fund-Raising Investigation

Senator John Glenn (D-Ohio) is accusing the Republican National Committee and other GOP groups of "stonewalling" and possible "obstruction of justice" in the Senate's campaign-finance investigation.

Glenn said the RNC had heavily or entirely censored "about twenty-five percent" of the documents it produced in response to a subpoena. Glenn said the RNC's lawyer "has been uncooperative in setting up interviews with RNC personnel."

Glenn is the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. He and other Democrats on the committee have made similar complaints before, but never in such strong language.

"The response of the Republican National Committee to the document subpoena is cynical, insulting and is utterly at odds with a good faith response," Glenn wrote in a letter to the committee chairman, Sen. Fred Thompson.

Glenn said two GOP groups, Americans for Tax Reform and the National Policy Forum, have yet to produce a single document after being subpoenaed weeks ago.

"I do not readily subscribe to conspiracy theories, but what is occurring is making a mockery of the investigation, and, indeed, might be viewed in some quarters as obstruction of justice," Glenn wrote.
