Subject: Clinton's Unscheduled Stroll

After his Marshall Plan speech at the parliament building, President Bill Clinton took an unscheduled stroll through the streets of The Hague today. He toured an area which has several canals, stopping to talk to Dutch citizens.

Then he walked down a street near the parliament and paused to look in shop windows. He also asked a family holding a small baby if the child was a boy or a girl. When they replied that the baby was a girl, he said, "Oh."

Then he went to the der Hooischuur (loosely translates to The Haystack) Bistro, a small cafe about a block away, where he drank tea.

This was the second time the president took time to mingle with Dutch citizens. Earlier today, he left the limousine to shake a few hands.
