Subject: Clinton heading to two political fund-raisers, as campaign finance furor grows
As the furor over fund-raising continues to swirl around Washington, President Bill Clinton is continuing to attend fund-raisers for Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee.
Tuesday evening the President will attend two such fund-raisers. The first is for Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.)
According to Dorgan's office, tonight's event will be attended by 50 to 150 people. Though the senator's staff would not say exactly how much they hope to take in, they expect to raise somewhere between $50,000 to $150,000. Tickets for the fund-raiser are $1,000 per person. The staff was quick to point out none of the donations will be so-called "soft-money."
Among other high-profile Democrats to attend will be Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.). The staff says "numerous" other senate Democratic leaders will attend.
From there, Clinton heads to a fund-raiser for the Democratic National Committee. DNC spokeswoman Amy Weiss Tobe would only say that the DNC expects to raise $575,000. Neither the White House nor the DNC would say what the ticket price for the event is, but White House sources say the event is "small, 40-50 people at dinner."
