WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Feb. 13) -- First daughter Chelsea Clinton has been accepted by Harvard University, according to a report in today's Los Angeles Times, but has until May 1 to decide whether that's where she will attend college. NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AllPolitics, Feb. 13) -- Dr. David Kessler, the controversial commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will become the dean of the Yale University School of Medicine. Kessler's appointment will become effective July 1. During his six years at the helm of the FDA, Kessler became one of the most activist commissioners in the agency's history. A doctor and a lawyer, Kessler overhauled the FDA's drug approval process, developed a new system of food labeling and pulled silicone breast implants from the market. Kessler's most ambitious effort was a series of regulations aimed at keeping children from smoking.
Albright Gets Wired
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Feb. 13) -- Less than a month into her job, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is already hopping aboard the Internet. She requested that a personal e-mail address be set up for her so that anyone can send in policy-related question. Her office is guaranteeing a response, though it may not come directly from Albright's keyboard. State Department Spokesman Nicholas Burns said Thursday, "I cannot guarantee you she's going to personally sit at home every night and answer every e-mail message ... But I can guarantee people who do send messages to her that they will get a response from the State Department." Albright will be given a weekly compilation of all the messages and respond herself in some instances. Albright's e-mail address is email@example.com.
