Mich. 13: Rivers Retains Seat for Democrats

(AllPolitics, Nov. 5) -- Democratic freshman Rep. Lynn Rivers will represent Michigan's 13th District for a second term after overcoming a strong challenge by Republican Joe Fitzsimmons.

Fitzsimmons, a retired businessman endorsed by the politically influential Michigan Farm Bureau, criticized Rivers as a big spender because of her opposition to the GOP balanced budget amendment proposal.

Rivers, strongly supported by organized labor in this swing district, insisted she supported fiscal responsiblity.
