Mass. 10: Delahunt Keeps Seat for Democrats
(AllPolitics, Nov. 5) -- Democrat William Delahunt staged a last-minute surge to gain Massachusetts' open 10th District seat, defeating Republican Edward Teague in one of the traditionally liberal state's more conservative areas. Delahunt secured his victory just a month ago in the September Democratic primary after a legal challenge taken all the way to the state Supreme Court. Delahunt, a liberal and former district attorney, focused on the economic security of the middle class and support for Medicare and the environment. Teague, minority leader in the state house, campaigned against tax increases and for welfare reform and the balanced budget amendment. The seat was left vacant by the retirement of 12-term Democrat Rep. Gerry Studds. Race Profiles |
