Maine 01: Democrat Allen Wins, As Expected
(AllPolitics, Nov. 5) -- Democrat Tom Allen delivered Maine's 1st District to his party as predicted, booting freshman Republican Rep. James Longley. Allen, a former Portland mayor, plastered Longley with right-wing images, blaming the Republican for reduced future funding for Medicare, Head Start and low-income heating subsidies. Longley tried to project the legacy of his namesake father, who was Maine's governor as an independent in the 1970s. But the congressman was unable to beat the conservative name-calling backed by labor-sponsored ads. |
