    Henry G. Cisneros

LUBBOCK, Texas (AllPolitics, Sept. 18) -- FBI agents tore through the home of the former mistress of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry G. Cisneros here Tuesday and whisked away five boxes of material. During the nearly 13-hour search of Linda Medlar's property, agents also videotaped the interior of several storage sheds. An independent counsel is investigating whether Cisneros lied to Congress about payments to Medlar during the background check conducted before his confirmation hearings.

    John Lewis

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Sept. 18) -- Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) today demanded that House Ethics Committee release its report on Speaker Newt Gingrich. He made his demand through a "privileged resolution," which means the matter must be addressed during the next two legislative days.

    Take This Bottle And...

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Sept. 18) -- A bipartisan group of 39 House members today tromped to a first aid office and submitted themselves to a drug test in an effort organized by Rep. Joe L. Barton (R-Texas). Most left locks of hair as samples, but a few, wishing to preserve what little hair they have left, opted for urinalysis instead. Barton is pushing legislation that would subject all House members to mandatory random drug tests. "To me, it's a no-brainer," Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) told the Associated Press. "Drugs are an epidemic in this country and we've got to be willing to step up and be tested."
