McNulty, the only New York Democrat to be endorsed by the state's Conservative Party, opposes abortion, supports an amendment to criminalize flag desecration and endorsed the Contract with America except its welfare-reform and tax-cut provisions. The Democrats have long called this district home, but the 21st is far from a liberal stronghold, and McNulty has quietly supported these voters' interests for the past eight years.

Norman says little has changed since she faced Michael McNulty in 1992--that's why she's running again. A 1951 Miss America contestant and retired Schenectady TV personality, Norman focuses on health care; she wants newly licensed physicians to have the chance to pay back school loans with "commensurate service" in poor areas. Norman also supports mandatory waiting periods on gun purchases and is solidly pro-choice.
