STATUS:
White House public liaison director Alexis Herman has won the battle for Labor secretary. Over the last week she and Rep. Esteban Torres (D-Calif.) ran neck-and-neck for the slot as public interest groups lobbied for the candidates. Some labor unions pushed for Torres while civil rights groups wanted Herman. Former Sen. Harris Wofford (D-Penn.) was in contention earlier in the process.
Secretary Reich is escaping the Beltway to return university teaching and his family in Boston.
