Lighting up London -- shortlisted entries in competition to illuminate the River Thames

Earlier this year, The Illuminated River Foundation invited international design and architecture firms to pitch ideas for London's largest ever public exhibition. Featured here, the six shortlisted proposals explore everything from futuristic light beams piercing through the night sky to understated amber glow at low tide. The winning proposal -- dubbed "Current" -- is the brainchild of artist Leo Villareal and architecture firm Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands.
