- Clinton and Trump costumes were popular ahead of the election
- Kids across the country lightened the mood with their takes on the candidates
Halloween costumes traditionally recap the best of pop culture or newsmakers of the year, and two figures have undoubtedly dominated 2016's national discussions: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
With a lighthearted spin on what has often been a very contentious and serious election cycle, these kids' candidate costumes spread joy at every doorstep.
Although it's hardly the first year that mini pantsuits and toupees have made the rounds, the costumes could not have been more timely this Halloween.
A week before the election, the costumes poked fun at the political system.
Some of them took to exaggerating the candidates' best known features.
Or most recognizable looks.
Still, even in good fun, most costumes couldn't help but take a side just a little bit.
Even Obama got in on some of the fun on Monday.
Next Tuesday, we'll see plenty of the real candidates.
For now, let's enjoy their adorable child surrogates.
