Mariah Carey opened up about her E! docuseries.
"My goal is for it to be a lasting piece of work for my fans," the singer says.
It’s Mariah Carey’s world and we’re all just living in it.
That is, of course, the perception one would gain from seeing the singer promote her eight-episode E! docuseries at a panel during the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday.
The singer cracked jokes and earned laughs from a notoriously tough crowd of reporters as she promoted the upcoming series, which she billed as a documentary more than a garden variety reality show.
At one point, she even invited her glam squad on stage to give her a touch-up during the panel.
“I don’t even know what reality is – literally,” she deadpanned.
“Mariah’s World” will chronicle a busy time in the singer’s life, following her as she preps for her first European tour in ten years and her wedding to Australian businessman James Packer.
It will also feature appearances from her 5-year-old twins, Moroccan, who she affectionately calls “Rock,” and Monroe.
“They could have their own show because that’s how funny they are,” the singer said.
Appearances from ex-husband Nick Cannon might also be possible, but Carey said that remains to be seen, as the series is still being edited.
When a reporter mistakenly assumed Cannon would be on the series, Carey was quick to correct him.
“I didn’t say that, darling,” she said, as the audience laughed. “I said he came around – I don’t know what makes final cut.”
Carey admitted the filming process was difficult to become accustomed to, saying she was “withholding” at first because she is “never sure who to trust.” But she eventually opened up.
Whatever ends up on screen, the legendary singer hopes it’s at the very least “entertaining.”
“I don’t know that anybody really knows the real me because if somebody sees me on TV … it’s not enough time to get to know somebody,” she said. “My goal is for it to be a lasting piece of work for my fans.”
With the show now almost behind her, the singer’s focus remains on creating new music.
She said she’s taking a “different approach” with her next record.
“Right now I’m just writing and recording and collaborating and then we’ll see what the best of the best is,” she said.
“Mariah’s World” premieres Dec. 4.
