The singer was shot on his birthday Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Fuentes-Rosas, 45, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died Saturday, the Chicago Police said in a statement.
A man approached the singer on foot, displayed a handgun and ordered him out of the car, police said.
The victim resisted and the gunman fired several rounds, striking him in the head, police said.
The attacker ran a short distance on foot then got into a car and fled, police said.
Fuentes-Rosas was on Mexico's "The Voice" in 2011.
The shooting was on the same street where the Chicago resident was president of a music instruction school.
No arrests have been made.
His killing comes a week after another former "Voice" contestant, Christina Grimmie, was shot dead following a performance
in Orlando, Florida.
Grimmie, 22, rose to fame
on the U.S. version of the show, which airs on NBC.
